Journalism

“I want to be a journalist.” That, in essence, was what I decided after graduating in 1998. After a fortuitous meeting with the legendary Richard Quest, he advised me to write to a few broadcasters, and I landed a job as a production runner at London News Network. A few months later, I became a trainee journalist at Euromoney; then a stockmarket writer at UK-iNvest.com, where I got to write about – and live – the dotcom boom and bust; and then on to the BBC Business & Economics Unit. Frustrated at a lack of on-air opportunities, I managed to persuade my bosses to let me go to Lima as the BBC’s stringer, in 2002 (see picture). Once there, I also reported for CBS, NPR, ABC and CBC. I then moved to Buenos Aires as the BBC’s official South America Correspondent. In 2007, I joined Bloomberg Television as Europe Business Editor and then Middle East Editor. Since I left in 2016, I’ve been freelancing for CNN.
